Is Modern Notepad completely free?

Yes. Modern Notepad is 100% free to use. There are no paid plans, no premium tiers, and no hidden charges. All features including Google Drive sync, password-protected sharing, PDF export, and folder organisation are available to every user at no cost.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can start writing notes immediately without creating any account. If you want to sync your notes across devices using Google Drive, you can optionally sign in with your Google account. Signing in is completely optional and your notes work perfectly without it.

Where are my notes stored?

Your notes are stored in your browser's local storage by default. This means they stay on your device and are not sent to any server. If you connect your Google account, your notes are also synced to a file called zen_backup.json in your personal Google Drive, which only you can access.

I lost my notes after clearing my browser data. Can I recover them?

If you had Google Drive sync enabled before clearing your browser data, your notes are safe in your Google Drive. Simply log in again and they will be restored automatically. If you did not have Drive sync enabled, unfortunately notes stored in local storage cannot be recovered after the browser data is cleared. We strongly recommend enabling Google Drive sync to protect your notes.

How do I export my notes?

Open any note and click the PDF button in the toolbar to download a professionally formatted PDF, or click the TXT button to download a plain text file. Both options are available for free with no limits.

I found a security issue. How do I report it?

Please email us immediately at contact@modernnotepad.com with the subject line "Security Report". We take all security concerns seriously and will investigate and respond promptly.

Can I use Modern Notepad offline?

Yes. Modern Notepad works fully offline. Your notes are saved to your browser's local storage as you type, so there is no need for an internet connection to write and access notes. Google Drive sync will resume automatically when your connection is restored.

Does Modern Notepad work on mobile?

Yes. Modern Notepad is fully optimised for mobile devices. On smartphones and tablets, the layout transforms into a touch-friendly mobile view with a navigation bar for easy switching between folders, notes, and the editor.
